Our friend Ed Droste, @edroste, just got back from an epic trip to #Japan. He says, “Well, the trip is over and I can with 100 percent certainty say it was the best trip of my life. Part of what made it so magical was being invited to such gorgeous hotels. So this is a massive thank you to @hoshinoya.official @hoshinoresorts.official @aman_tokyo @trunkhotel for their hospitality and making our trip to Japan that much more special! Every single place was beyond my wildest imagination. Truly. Many asked for a chronological itinerary, so to answer first we stayed at Hoshinoya Tokyo which is a modern sleek ryokan style hotel in the Ginza district with amazing food and roof top onsens. During that time Aman Tokyo invited us for quite possibly the best sushi meal of my life at their newly opened sushi restaurant “Musashi” …after that we went to Kyoto and were on our own and stayed at a random pace. But the thing about Kyoto is you can truly just stay anywhere and be happy bc you are out exploring all day! We ate at Tousuiro, a river front tofu restaurant, followed by Giro Giro, a well priced set meal spot and topped off at Hafuu, my first ever wagyu beef restaurant (which was pricey but SO GOOD)….the next place we stopped at was the Hoshinoya Fuji, a “glamping” hotel with insane views of Mount Fuji and endless deck space in the forest. Afterwards we found ourselves at our favorite spot, the KAI Hakone, which was by a small river in a valley surrounded by lush vegetation and an onsen to die for on the bottom floor. That hotel was very traditional and minimal but had the most amazing smell of wood and old tatami everywhere. I wanted to bottle it. Then we went to Kai Sengokuhara, which was also in the Hakone region and was amodern onsen mountainside soothe. This place had my favorite room. Finally we ended at the lively modern and always fun Trunk Hotel in Tokyo. My second time invited! I cannot thank all the mentioned hotels and staff enough for the incredibly generous invitations. @simonviii and I are still floating from it all!” #wanderlust #hoshinoyatokyo #views #instatravel #recommended #mountainview #traveldeeper #raveabouttravel #onlyravereviews
